Safeguarding our homes has become paramount - the decision to invest in a home security system is not a matter of luxury but a crucial necessity.

At Lynx Fire & Security, we understand the significance of protecting your domestic property against potential threats. For many people, the misconceptions surrounding the cost of a home security system are enough to prevent them from investing in their home and their property.

Let's delve into the factors that can impact cost, the options available, and the reasons why a home security system is an investment worth considering:

1. Affordability of Home Security Systems

Contrary to popular belief, the cost of a home security system is not as unaffordable as you might assume. While initial setup costs may vary depending on the features and sophistication of the system, there are plenty of affordable options available. At Lynx Fire & Security, we offer a variety of high-quality security systems at reasonable price points, making it accessible to homeowners with diverse budgets.

Factors that impact cost:

- The size of your home

- The type of security system you choose

- Monitoring Services

- Regular maintenance and servicing

2. Types of Home Security Systems

There are two main types of home security alarm systems – wired and wireless. The price point and ongoing maintenance costs can vary; ensuring that you have a good knowledge of your expectations can help you to choose a system that aligns with your needs.

Wired Systems

As the detection devices are hardwired, there is no need for routine battery changes, helping to reduce any ongoing maintenance costs. Wired alarm systems are suitable for most properties and can be adapted with Pet Sensors to account for the movement of small pets within your home. We recommend Wired Systems as a more long-term solution for homes that span a large area – provided that cabling is possible.

However, the initial costs of a wired system tend to be larger – this is due to the extensive cabling required and more complex installation process. It is also important to note that wired systems cannot be relocated to a new property.

Wireless Systems

Wireless burglar alarms tend to be a more affordable option for many people. With no cable installation required, it is minimally disruptive and easy to expand, dependent on your ongoing requirements.

At Lynx Fire & Security, we offer a Wireless Intruder Alarm Bundle which starts at £546 inc VAT, fully installed. Our wireless alarm systems are completely compatible with HomeControl 2.0 – an app that allows you to monitor your home from your phone.

3. Implications for Homeowner’s Insurance

Insurance providers recognise the proactive measures homeowners take to safeguard their properties and may offer discounts for installing monitored security systems.

Not all insurance companies offer discounts – make sure to enquire with your insurance company to discuss the conditions of your premium and how these could be impacted by the installation of a home security system.

In some cases, certification may be a condition implemented by your insurer. As a NSI NACOSS Gold and BAFE accredited security company, Lynx Fire & Security meet many of the conditions that insurance companies put in place – allowing you to access discounts as a result of your investment.

3. Domestic Takeover Service

There are also more affordable options for those that have moved into a new home with an existing security system, or want to transfer to a different supplier at a new rate.

If you are unhappy with your current supplier but don’t need a new home security system, Lynx Fire & Security offer Domestic Takeover plans in two main tiers:

Tier 1 – Domestic Takeover Service

£130, including VAT.

- Full check & service of your current home alarm system

CCTV Systems

Wired or wireless CCTV systems are also a valuable security asset. Acting as a visual deterrent, as well as being useful for capturing evidence, CCTV can be added to the property to help you keep a watchful eye on your home.

While the initial cost may give pause, the long-term benefits of a home security system are undeniable. From deterring potential intruders to providing round-the-clock surveillance, the value it brings to your home far exceeds the investment.
