Earlier this year, a story hit the headlines when 28 animals were rescued from a private collection in Hertfordshire Zoo after the Founder was found guilty of animal welfare offences. Originally residing there at the Cat Survival Trust, a young male Eurasian Lynx - known as Freddie - was safely relocated to Shepreth Wildlife Park in Cambridgeshire.
At Lynx Fire & Security, the story hit close to home - not just because of our name, but because of our shared values: care, protection, and community responsibility. Following Freddie’s rescue, we decided to become an official Corporate Sponsor, helping to fund his care and support his transition to a permanent, safe home.
Why We Chose to Get Involved
Our team was deeply moved by the BBC report on Freddie’s story. After the closure of the Cat Survival Trust, Freddie’s relocation to Shepreth Wildlife Park marked a turning point, giving him a second chance at a life filled with enrichment, safety and species-appropriate care.
Wildlife conservation might not be our day job - but security and protection are at the heart of what we do. When we saw a chance to support a vulnerable animal in need, we knew it aligned with our values as a business.
As a company in the East Midlands, partnering with Shepreth Wildlife Park also gave us an opportunity to support a local organisation doing incredible work to protect and rehabilitate animals.
Our Visit to Meet Freddie
Recently, four members of our team - Carol, Richard, Lauren and Glen - had the privilege of visiting Shepreth Wildlife Park to see Freddie in person.
They were incredibly impressed by the Park’s dedication to animal welfare. Freddie’s enclosure is spacious and thoughtfully designed, filled with plants, platforms and enrichment items to stimulate his natural instincts and behaviours.
“He was absolutely stunning,” said Lauren. “It’s clear the Park has gone to great lengths to give him the best care possible. It’s reassuring to know he’s now in a safe, secure environment where he can thrive.”
Freddie has settled in well, and the rest of our team are looking forward to visiting him soon.
The Importance of Ethical Wildlife Sponsorship
Shepreth Wildlife Park is home to a variety of rescued and endangered species, and their work relies on public donations and corporate partnerships. By becoming Freddie’s sponsor, we’re not just funding his care, we’re helping to raise awareness of the importance of wildlife rescue and conservation in the UK.
If your business is looking to make a positive impact, we’d strongly encourage you to consider ethical wildlife sponsorship. It’s a rewarding way to give back and support meaningful, real-world causes.
A Feel-Good Partnership for the Whole Team
Freddie may not be part of our core services, but he’s certainly become part of the Lynx family. Supporting his recovery has brought our team closer together and reminded us of the value of giving back to our community.
We’re proud to be part of Freddie’s story and to support the incredible work of Shepreth Wildlife Park.
