Having an ongoing surveillance solution, such as CCTV cameras, allows you to catch and deter criminal behaviour, ensuring your domestic property remains safe and secure while you’re away.

Here are a few factors you need to be aware of before committing to a CCTV system to ensure you’re choosing the right system for your property and security requirements.

Do I Have to Tell My Neighbour I Have CCTV?

Depending on the placement of your security cameras, you may need to inform your neighbour(/s) that CCTV cameras are in operation. You should minimise disruption as much as possible to further reassure your neighbours that you are only capturing footage that is necessary.

If your CCTV camera captures images or audio recordings from outside your property’s boundary, you may be required to put up signs warning others of the system to adhere to data protection laws.

The Benefits of CCTV Systems

Criminal Deterrence

The visible presence of security cameras serves as a deterrent for potential criminal activity, such as burglary or package theft. It can make a huge difference, improving your property’s safety and security when away from home.

Evidence Collection

These systems record 24/7, allowing them to catch any suspicious behaviour on or around the property at any time. You can watch and keep a record of this footage to show authorities if necessary, and it may help with future prosecution cases if any crimes are committed.

Remote Access

Installing CCTV systems allows you to monitor your property’s safety if you’re away from home. Connect this to your mobile, tablet, or PC so that you can check any issues if they occur.

Integration With Other Devices

Using your CCTV system and intruder alarm systems in tandem can help to further guarantee property safety. When your intruder alarm is triggered, you will receive a notification on your phone, allowing you to check your CCTV cameras as the event occurs.

This means you can determine whether the trigger is a false alarm or if the authorities need to be contacted.

CCTV Placement

There are a few important places to consider when deciding where to install your CCTV cameras on your property. Any entry points should be examined when deliberating where your CCTV system should be installed.

Front door - The primary access point to your domestic property.

Back door or side entrances - These are also important to consider, as these give criminals alternative entrance points, and are especially important if they overlook a garden or gates.

Windows - Ground-level windows are important to consider, as they can be an additional route for criminals, especially if left open.

This is generally within 1-3 weeks but we can also arrange installations months in advance if you had a particular date in mind. Some seasons could be busier than others so make sure to book ASAP!

2. What are the advantages of a monitored system?

A monitored alarm system can give you a further sense of security surrounding your property. It can be connected to our Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) so that any signals sent from the alarm system can be used to alert you, nominated keyholders or even your local Police.
