Here at Lynx Fire & Security, we understand the natural desire to know your business is safe and secure when away from your commercial property. Having an intruder alarm system in place enables this.
However, simply having this system in place isn’t the end of the journey – regular maintenance and servicing is essential to make sure you are getting the most out of your system and to preserve your peace of mind.
How Often Should My Intruder Alarm Be Serviced?
It is recommended that you get any alarm systems serviced annually, however, some systems need servicing twice a year. Any monitored intruder alarms (that signal to an Alarm Receiving Centre) are required to be serviced once every six months. This ensures everything is up to date and working the way it should be.
Getting your alarm system serviced regularly can help us to catch issues before they occur, reducing the chance of annoying emergency call-outs that can interrupt your day. Therefore, it is important that you consider when your last service was to determine when your next service should take place. Overdue a service or simply wish to book one? What Happens During an Intruder Alarm Service?
Generally, any servicing or maintenance takes around 30-60 minutes for small establishments, but this can longer for larger buildings. The time is dependent on the size of your system and whether any issues are present during testing. During this time, your intruder alarm will be thoroughly assessed including:
- Control equipment
- Anti-tamper circuits
- Audible signalling
- Deliberately operated devices (where applicable, such as panic buttons)
- Power supplies
- Closed circuit devices and electronic devices connected to the system
- Battery packs can also be replaced within wireless devices and the control panel at an additional cost
At Lynx, we ensure every part of your system is up to date to help you save money on expensive emergency repairs and to also enable you to get the best and longest time possible out of your intruder alarm system. Common Customer Queries
1. When is my maintenance renewal due?
When a system is due maintenance (and the frequency thereof) is dependent on the type of system. Annual services will occur on the anniversary of the installation (or system takeover). Some systems will have more than one service a year (fire alarms and monitored intruder alarms). Our governing body, National Security Inspectorate (NSI), allows a plus or minus 1 month window for the annual maintenance to be completed. Therefore, for NSI purposes, a visit carried out during anniversary month, during the calendar month immediately prior to the anniversary month or during the calendar month immediately after the anniversary month is also regarded as having been completed on time.
For those that have 2 visits a year. The interim service would be due 6 months following the anniversary and the same rule applies.
2. What are the common failures of an alarm system?
Some of the main failures of a security alarm system come from a lack of regular system maintenance, old batteries that stopped working, cable damage, loose cables and connections or faulty sensors.
3. How long does it take to install a security alarm system?
Typically, the installation of Domestic Intruder Alarm or CCTV Systems can be completed within 4-8 hours. For larger domestic buildings or commercial properties, this is likely to be 2-10 days and we may allocate multiple engineers- this is all dependent on the system.
4. Can Lynx service an alarm system provided by another company?
We can undertake an initial domestic takeover service to conduct a full check and service of your current alarm. Where possible, this can include a rebrand of the existing external bell box and decoy, as well as 12 months access to our out-of-hours service with a reduced call-out rate.
